VXi to Deploy Conexant’s Embedded Audio Solution for USB Headset

Conexant Systems, a supplier of semiconductor solutions for imaging, audio, embedded modem, and video surveillance applications, announced that its CX20562 speakers-on-a-chip audio solution was selected by VXi, a provider of headset solutions, for a new USB headset adapter.
VXi’s X200 adapter is targeted at computer-based voice communications applications that require voice and audio including Unified Communications (UC), VoIP telephony, and speech recognition. The adapter is available now from VXi’s global network of distributors and resellers.
“VXi develops telecommunications and speech recognition solutions, and we are encouraged they chose our audio solutions for their new X200 USB headset adapter,” said Phil Pompa, senior vice president of product marketing for Conexant. “We will continue to apply our expertise in digital signal processing algorithms to further improve sound clarity in audio and voice applications.”
VXi’s new X200 USB adapter features Conexant’s proprietary noise- reduction and wideband acoustic echo-cancellation technologies.

Jun. 12–Two members of Sacramento County’s glassy-winged sharpshooter team were sent Friday to Solano County to assist officials there in dealing with an infestation of the disease-carrying agricultural pest.
The glassy-winged sharpshooter carries Pierce’s disease, which is deadly to grapevines u California’s second-largest agricultural commodity with $2.6 billion in cash receipts in 2003.

SHAH ALAM: Following a newspaper report on the alleged abuse of a state executive council member’s letterhead, Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said yesterday all elected and appointed government representatives in Selangor should avoid giving out support letters for businesses.
Khalid said the state was of the view that support letters for services and supplies contracts could create a conflict of interest that in turn could affect the people’s trust in the state administration.
Speaking after chairing the state executive council meeting here yesterday, he said the representatives could still give out support letters for welfare and charity purposes.
“This is to help those in need of urgent help.”
Khalid said mayors and local council presidents would be told to compile all support letters that have been issued by the representatives as they would be audited and their effectiveness gauged.
He said the state did not want to ban all support letters outright as it would be a poor public relations move and a political disaster.
“People sometimes come from far away places for such letters and turning them away would not be a good idea,” he said, adding that local councils would now just file away all support letters for businesses.
Khalid said the letters were not a good idea because, for example, if a support letter from him did not result in someone getting a contract, then he would be deemed as powerless.
He said contracts were now won through tenders and on merit and not merely with support letters.
“It will not look good if my letter does not result in a contract,” he said, adding that the state was striving towards good governance and integrity at all levels.
Meanwhile, Klang municipal councillor Tee Boon Hock denied any wrongdoing with regard to using state exco member Ronnie Liu’s letterhead for the purpose of securing contracts.
“My family and I have not applied for nor received a single contract from Klang Municipal Council, and we will not bid for any such contracts as it would mean a direct conflict of interest,” he said in a joint press conference with Liu and Selangor DAP chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah.
Referring to a newspaper report on the matter, Tee said the description of the councillor provided in an earlier report fitted his profile although there was no name mentioned.
“I am 50, had previously stood twice for a state seat in the general election and was in the MPK tender board until last month.”

Two suicide attackers wearing women’s cloaks blew themselves up yesterday in a Shiite mosque in northern Baghdad, killing at least 52 people and wounding scores.
It was the second major attack against Shiite targets in as many days.
The violence came as American Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad warned that Iraq faces the possibility of sectarian civil war if efforts to build a national unity government do not succeed.
He went on to say that such a conflict could affect the entire Middle East.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Falah al-Mohammedawi said the blasts occurred at the Buratha mosque, which is affiliated with the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, the main Shiite party.
The attack occurred as worshippers were leaving at the end of Friday prayers, the main weekly religious service.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry cautioned people in Baghdad to avoid crowds near mosques and markets due to a car bomb threat.
A prominent Shiite politician, Jalal Eddin al-Sagheer, was among the worshippers but police said he was unhurt.
Rescuers carried the bodies from the mosque compound on wooden wheelbarrows and loaded them on to the back of pick-up trucks.
The Baghdad city council urged Iraqis to donate blood for the wounded.
On Thursday, a car bomb exploded 300 yards from the Imam Ali mosque in Najaf, the most sacred shrine in Iraq for Shiite Muslims.
Ten people were killed.
The attacks were likely to increase tensions between Sunni and Shiite Muslims, already at a high level following the February 22 blast at a Shiite shrine in Samarra and reprisal killings.
That bombing triggered a war of reprisal attacks against Sunni mosques and clerics.
The Interior Ministry, which oversees police, said it received intelligence that insurgents were preparing to set off seven car bombs in Baghdad. Al-Mohammedawi said the alert will remain until the bombs are discovered and deactivated.
The statement also warned that legal measures would be taken against “any security official who fails to take the necessary procedures to foil any terrorist attack in his area”.
Khalilzad, meanwhile, said political contacts among Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish leaders were improving, but that within the general population, “polarisation along sectarian lines” was intensifying, in part due to the role of armed militias.
He warned that “a sectarian war in Iraq” could draw in neighbouring countries, “affecting the entire region”.
“That’s a possibility if we don’t do everything we can to make this country work,” Khalilzad said.
“What’s happening here has huge implications for the region and the world.”
He said the best way to prevent such a conflict was to form a government including representatives of all groups.
That effort has stalled over Sunni and Kurdish opposition to the Shiite candidate to lead the government, Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari.
Khalilzad avoided any criticism of al-Jaafari.
He said there were many competent Iraqis capable of leading the government “and Prime Minister al-Jaafari certainly is one of them”.

The Farmyard The farmyard sleeps, a cockerel crows in the hour before dawn. A milkmaid with her pail and stool at work this early morn.
Fingers aching with the cold, her cheeks a rosy hue.
The dairy’s warmth awaits her for the task she has to do.
Sheepdog Nell with watchful eye recumbent on the floor.
The mat that spells out ‘welcome’ on the flagstones by the door. Fussy ducks go waddling by on their journey to the pond.
Johnnie dreams of warm fresh milk of which he’s so fond.
The old farm kitchen glows with light, the mistress baking bread. She hasn’t had much time to spare since rising from her bed.
The farmhands soon will be along to start another day.
Breakfast warm and filling to help them on their way.
Dawn’s fingers pointing through the sky, the farmyard is alive.
A sow is grunting in the sty, the bees are in the hive.
Cackling hens are busy, they have lots of eggs to lay The yard a- buzz with many sounds, there is much to do today.
A fence to mend, dry walls to fix, planting of seeds.
Sheep and horses in the fields — they all have many needs.
At end of day the weary band will plod its homeward way.
A feeling of achievement for all they’ve done today.
A jug of ale will please the lads with maidens sweet and fair.
Whilst the farmer will be happy with his pipe and cosy chair.
